At their quarterly board meeting in April, the Mississippi Soil & Water Conservation Commission Board re-elected Pete Hunter as their Chairman.
Hunter is a semi-retired producer from the Mississippi Delta near Clarksdale. Throughout his lifetime, he has been involved in numerous conservation programs and has been an early adopter and advocate of farming practices to ensure that agricultural lands are conserved for future generations.
Hunter has served for years as a District Commissioner on the Coahoma County Soil and Water District, currently serves as a member of the National Association of Conservation Districts’ Natural Resources Policy Committee, is a past president of the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts, as well as a Vice President of Delta Council.
He also currently serves on the Governor’s task force for the declining aquifer in Mississippi, and is a National Association of Conservation Districts Soil Health Champion.
“Hunter continues to devote countless hours of his time and resources to advocate for conservation in his home county, throughout the state of Mississippi, as well as on the national level, and he is certainly a champion for conservation,” the Conservation Commission said in announcing Hunter’s selection. “He leads by example in his personal life as well as in conservation farming, and his leadership will continue to strengthen the MS Soil & Water Conservation Commission into the future.”
