The Coahoma College Lady Tigers played their only game in a two-week stretch, and they made the most of it.
Paced by Elishia Wilson’s 15 points and 7 rebounds, the Lady Tigers defeated East Central Community College by a score of 68-63.
The win preserves the Lady Tigers’ undefeated record, which now stands at 7-0. They also stand at 1-0 in MACCC play. Playing a good team to a close score was likely little consolation for East Central, which has now lost four of their last five games.
The game also furthered an impressive trend for the Lady Tigers. Over their seven-game winning streak to open the season, they have shown an impressive propensity to win close games. Only two of their wins have resulted in double-digit margins of victory. One was an overtime thriller, and three of the seven have been decided by five points or less. The ability to repeatedly win close games comes in no small part from excellent coaching.

As the game began, it appeared that Coahoma might have to spend the next week thinking about a one-game losing streak. East Central began the game with an 8-0 run, but Coahoma held a 19-18 lead after the opening quarter of play. The Lady Tigers were outscored by six points in the second quarter, which made the score 41-36 at halftime.
After each team scored 12 points in the third quarter, Coahoma outscored ECCC 20-10 in the fourth to win the game 68-63.
CCC's Elishia Wilson led all scorers with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds. Coahoma guard Ashanti Backus recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Monday's game also marked the first start of the season for the Lady Tigers' Jeanee Anderson. The sophomore guard tallied 14 points, while going 3-of-4 from three-point range.
Coahoma's Tiara Abron was one of four Lady Tigers that scored in double figures against East Central. Abron tallied 12 points, and made two 3-pointers.
The next game for CCC is on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Southern Arkansas University Tech. The matchup is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
