The Clarksdale Police Department is seeking information on an apparent random shooting that sent a man to the hospital and police looking for answers.
As required by law, officers were called the DHS Clarksdale Hospital at 10:54 p.m. Tuesday by medical personnel after a man came in with a gunshot wound.
Police reports said officers spoke with Rogis Clark Jr., who told police he was in the 800 block of Cherry Street walking toward his car when he heard gunfire. He said he was struck in the lower leg, but did not see where the shots came from.
Police did not report any arrest or name a possible suspect in this case which was assigned to Investigator G. Johnson.
The incident has been deemed an aggravated assault since a weapon was used and made someone fear for their life. Aggravated assault is a felony in Mississippi and potential punishments upon conviction could be five years to 60 years in prison since a firearm was involved. Aggravated assault without a firearm carries a one to 60 year penalty.
Clarksdale Assistant Chief Vince Ramirez has asked anyone with information about this incident to call the Clarksdale Police Department at 621-8156, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or simply dial 911. All calls remain anonymous and cash is paid to those providing information that leads to solving a crime.

The Clarksdale Police Department has responded to the following calls of shots fired Monday:
• 400 block of Bolivar Street – nothing found.
Police are asking the community to call 911 immediately if they hear shots fired and simply give the dispatcher their location so officers can respond promptly.
The firing of a gun in the city limits is a misdemeanor but can carry felony charges if the person shooting the gun is on probation or has been convicted of a felony involving a firearm.
