The United States Marshals Service confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the two inmates that escaped from the Grenada County Jail late Sunday night have been captured.
Grenada’s Claude Terry Slaughter, 59, and Jonathan Wayne Miller, 28, were discovered around noon in a wooded area along Prospect Road in Montgomery County near Duck Hill. The two had led local authorities on a manhunt since an early Monday morning headcount by Correctional Management Services – the jail’s management service – revealed that the duo had escaped and were on the run.
Montgomery County Coroner Allan Pratt confirmed that Slaughter died from a gunshot sustained during his capture. He was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital. Miller was taken into custody without incident.
