They say good marriages and good government are based on the art of compromise.
The ability to work things out is critical to the healthy function of any noble institution.

With that said, your Clarksdale Press Register looks on events of our Board of Mayor and Commissioners over the past three months and wonders what has gone wrong.
Why can’t our Mayor and Board pick a city judge? It won’t be the first and it won’t be the last chosen by this august body. Let’s ponder the best course and make a decision.
The absence of Ward 3 Commissioner Willie Turner over the past three months has upset the Mayor’s control of city government. Mayor Chuck Espy likes to see our city father’s split 2-2, allowing him to call the shot.
We urge you to look around and see how this type of leadership has wrecked this town in eight short years.
We urge Mayor Chuck Espy to stop playing parliamentary games with the future of Clarksdale and look for solutions that will benefit us all.
We urge Espy to look at a compromise.
We urge Commisioner Ed Seals to make up his own mind and seek a comprimise.
We urge Commissioner Willie Turner to prove he can work with others on that board and seek a compromise when he returns.
One solution your Clarksdale Press Register has heard proposed to the entire Board of Mayor and Commissioners is to name both Cynthia Mitchell and Burks Rogers as Municipal Court Judges.
Both are good people. Both know the law. Both have justice and a desire to live in a safe and secure Clarksdale in their heart.
This butting heads and delaying city business for three months verges on the edge of being criminal. Vendors need to be paid. Critical issues need to be solved. This community does not need to drift deeper into crime and the death of more teenagers.
Let’s come together and on a unanimous vote put Cynthia Mitchell and Burks Rogers to work on the bench of Clarksdale Municipal Court.
