Clarksdale and Coahoma County gathered last week to recognize some people who are playing a major role in the rebirth of this town and county. You can see their faces on the pages of your Clarksdale Press Register this week.
The Clarksdale/Coahoma County Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Foundation’s 77th Annual Banquet was held at The Pinnacle on the campus of Coahoma Community College. We hope you were there.
Yes, it was a time to be proud of what is happening across Coahoma County and in Clarksdale and this community celebrated that.
It’s time to realize our community is rapidly becoming the Delta’s shining star.
It’s time to realize we can show the rest of the Delta how to pick themselves up, plan and move forward.
Coahoma County and Clarksdale are fortunate to have welcomed several new companies to our community over the past several years. We have also seen an expansion or two as local industries.
Combined these projects have brought over 200 new jobs to the county over the past couple of years.
Our supervisors have stopped our hospital from closing. Our town was filled with tourists and locals enjoying the Hambone Festival and Cruzn Clarksdale Car Show this past weekend.
This newspaper is not naive enough to say things are booming, but they are looking up. We do have more people earning a paycheck and that is the grease in any economy anywhere in this country.
The Chamber Banquet also saw Chamber Executive Jon Levingston hint at more good things to come. All we will say is we hope you will keep reading your Clarksdale Press Register.
Sadly, the last people to realize what is happening will be local residents. Now is the time to look around get involved and catch the excitement. Clarksdale and Coahoma County need to thump our chests and tell others about the Delta’s Shining Star.
