Incumbent Mayor Chuck Espy had a crew picking up political signs after Tuesday's election saw their vehicle shot into in South Clarksdale.
Police reports indicate officers responded to the 500 Block of Ashton at 7:01 p.m. Tuesday night in reference to a van being shot into. Their investigation revealed the shots were allegedly fired on 17th Street some distance away.
Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with Espy who said he had some guys working for him picking up campaign signs from the neighborhood. He said they were in the vicinity of 17th Street when the van was shot.
Police did discover a couple of bullet holes in the van.
No one was injured in the incident.
The case was assigned to Assistant Police Chief Vince Ramirez.
The Clarksdale Police Department has responded to the following reports of shots fired:
· 900 block of West Second Street- shell casing were found in the street.
Police are asking residents to call them immediately when they hear shots fired in their neighborhood, give a location of where the shot came from and police will respond to the scene and check for evidence.
