Eula Luckett went to join her Lord Jesus Christ on October 2, 2023 after 91 full years of life.
Eula was born Eula Mae Harrison to Jessie and Mary Harrison on Feb. 2, 1932 in Clarksdale. She was the youngest of seven children; one sister and five brothers. A lifelong resident of Coahoma County, Eula devoted her life to her family, church, and community.
After graduating from Clarksdale High School, Eula married William Corley “Sonny” Luckett on July 6, 1951 in Clarksdale. The two grew their family by having a daughter and three sons which they raised on the family farm in Dublin. Her children and the families they have grown were her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
She was a long-time member of Clarksdale Baptist Church and later Union Chapel at Cagels Crossing. Over the years she helped in the nursery and taught the adult women’s Sunday School class. When she no longer felt well enough to attend church on Sundays, she could be found listening to hymns in her home and watching sermons on the television. She devoted much time in her life to studying God’s word and sharing her faith with others.
She committed much of her time to the community through involvement as a member of Mississippi Homemakers & Volunteers (MHV). With MHV she served as President and held other offices for numerous years. She was also a member of the Women’s Club and Garden Club. She was a master seamstress, and even furthered her love of all things crafty by taking courses in art, pottery, and batik at Delta State University. She also volunteered her time in local politics and worked the voting polls in her small hometown.
Eula was an avid reader, a force to be reckoned with at the bunko table and world traveler. Some of her fondest memories of travel included times spent in Korea, China and Canada.
To know Eula was to love her; those close to her enjoyed her captivating story-telling, quick-witted remarks and wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her sons, Homer Luckett (La’Raye) of Tutwiler, Jim Luckett (Carol) of Dublin, and Steve Luckett (Anna) of Dublin; Nine grandchildren, Embry Moody, Boyd Mitchell, Mae Wolfe, Corley Mullins, April Lott, Harrison Luckett, Douglas Luckett, Malorie Salem and Amy Enis; 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Eula is preceded in death by her husband, William Corley Luckett, her daughter, Dianne Luckett Mitchell (Ronnie), her parents Jessie and Mary Mitchell Harrison, her siblings Barbara H Adams, JC Harrison, Ralph Harrison, Jim Harrison, Billy Harrison, Leroy Harrison and her grandson, William Marshall Luckett.
