The Tunica County Sheriff’s Department K-9 “Blade” was killed in a house fire about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The fire occurred in the home of the dog’s handler.
The Tunica Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene and found the home at 865 Franklin Cove fully involved.
Firefighters said five minors, one a teenager, managed to get out of the house, but Blade did not.
The remains of K-9 Blade were transported by the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office to the Horn Lake Animal Hospital for private cremation. The cremated remains shall be returned to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident is being investigated by the Town of Tunica Police Department and the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Shooting prompts chase
On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office received a call of shots fired in the Old Sub area, located just north of the city limits.
Upon arrival, deputies were led on high-speed chases by two vehicles going north on U.S. Highway 61. One two vehicles wrecked Hwy. 61, near Tunica National and two suspects were apprehended by deputies.
The second vehicle continued into DeSoto County and wrecked near I-69 and I-55. Two suspects were also apprehended there.
Both vehicles involved were discovered to have been stolen.
Three of the suspects were juvenile and the fourth, Martavious Cunigan, was placed in the Tunica County Detention Center.
