Jackson mayor Chokwe Lumumba and councilman Kenny Stokes got into a shouting match over the Jackson garbage situation. The fireworks begin at around minute 19 of this post-council impromptu press conference. (See video at bottom of this article.)
The original council meeting was terminated when Lumumba removed the waste discussion item from the agenda because Richard's Disposal had disclosed they are suing the city.
Council members tried to add a new discussion item to the agenda, in accordance with proper council procedures, but that motion got bogged down in several ad hoc, out-of-order comments by several people in the meeting.
At that point, the council members, having no item on the agenda to discuss, left the council chambers.
Lumumba and several other council members hung around afterwards to continue an informal non-council discussion. It was during this discussion that things heated up between Stokes and Lumumba around minute 9 of the following video.
