Quitman County Community Work Center escapee Walter Lee Lewis is now in custody.
Lewis, 31, was arrested around 2 p.m. Friday without incident in Fulton and will be returned to prison.
It is not known how Lewis made it to Fulton or if he had help making his escape Thursday.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections said he was located by law enforcement officers with the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Office and the Fulton Police Department and agents with the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ Special Response Team.
Lewis, went missing around 1:05 p.m. Thursday from a jobsite in Clarksdale. He was part of a crew obtained by the city to help cut grass on public property in Clarksdale.
Lewis was originally sentenced to 20 years in prison and five years’ probation on Feb. 19, 2010, in Lee County for conspiracy to commit a crime and malicious mischief.
Mississippi law makes escape punishable with a sentence of up to five years with that sentence to commence at the expiration of their original sentence.
