A 25-year-old man was killed Tuesday night at a Clarksdale apartment complex, which marked the city’s 11th murder of 2018.
Police were called out to the Eastgate Gardens apartment complex located off Espy Drive near the Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center and spent several hours in the cold, damp weather Tuesday night investigating the scene.
Zavian Griffin’s Facebook page was filled with condolences Tuesday night and Wednesday morning with many expressing shock and outrage. One of the final items he posted on his page was an item on Monday, Nov. 6 reading, “It’ll all eventually get better and be over with.”
His death marks the 11th in Clarksdale in 2018 and comes just two weeks after a 38-year-old woman, Lakesha McGee, was shot and killed in a shooting at 910 Cheyenne St. on Oct. 29. McGee was visiting her cousin, 29-year-old Jeremy McGee, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was taken to a Memphis hospital.
During a city meeting Monday night, Clarksdale Police Chief Sandra Williams said, at the time, there had been 10 homicides in the city in 2018.
She said arrests had been made in seven of those cases and they were waiting on results from a state crime lab that she believed would lead to another arrest.
