Jonestown Mayor Kenny Lester was picked up by the Hernando Police Department and placed in the DeSoto County Jail on three violations at 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, according to a representative from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
When Lester was stopped, the officer discovered he was driving on a suspended license and had two contempt of court violations – one in Southaven justice court and the other in Southaven municipal court.
Lester was released at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13 after paying a $255 bond for the justice court violation and a $300 bond for the municipal court violation. The judge released Lester for the violation of driving with a suspended license.
The city council addressed issue of Lester’s driver’s license being suspended in June 2018 when it attempted to require each alderman to have proper documentation to be reimbursed for traveling.

Lester said in June 2018 that the city council was attempting to show he does not have a driver’s license. He did not comment further at the time, but said he would address the issue at a public meeting in the next month or two. More than one year later, in July 2019, he still has not addressed the issue.
Lester declined to comment.
