Authorities bust Tallahatchie drug ring

By SPECIAL TO THE PRESS REGISTER,

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, officers with Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Department and Charleston Police Department served state indictments on eight individuals July 14 for allegedly distributing methamphetamine and marijuana in the area.

MBN, with assistance from the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Department and Charleston Police Department, began identifying individuals that were distributing methamphetamine and marijuana within Tallahatchie County and the surrounding areas in 2019.

As MBN agents conducted their investigation they were allegedly able to make multiple undercover purchases of methamphetamine from these individuals in Tallahatchie County.

“I would like to thank the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the city of Charleston and the deputies with the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance and hard work which led to these arrests,” said Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly. “Agencies like MBN are a huge asset to the state, especially smaller rural agencies like Tallahatchie County and are greatly appreciated.”

Additional indictments are possible as the case remains under investigation by MBN.

Anyone with information about this incident or any illegal drug activity in the region is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or simply dial 911. All calls remain anonymous and cash is paid to those providing information that leads to solving this crime.

Created by statutory authority in 1971, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics enforces the State's Uniform Controlled Substances Law. As the State's primary drug enforcement agency, the MBN accomplishes its mission by confiscating drugs and other contraband, and by arresting suspected drug violators for prosecution under applicable state and federal laws.
