Democrat Joe Biden has been deemed the next U.S. President after several media outlets announced Saturday that Republican incumbent Donald Trump has lost the election.
Biden accepted the count with a statement on Twitter.
“I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris. In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted,” Biden said on Twitter. “With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal.”
Trump has made repeated claims of election fraud and has vowed to contest the election in court.
“This election is far from over,” Trump said in a statement.
Coahoma County overwhelmingly voted for Biden while Trump claimed the State of Mississippi and the state's six electoral votes.
However, in Coahoma County, former Vice President Joe Biden took 5,189 votes (72.72 percent) to Trump’s 1,846 (25.87 percent) locally.
While Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) retained her US Senate seat, the Delta voted for Democratic challenger Mike Espy who took 5,466 votes (76.61 percent) in Coahoma County. Hyde-Smith had 1,625 votes (22.78 percent) in the local count.
US Rep. Bennie Thompson (D) also retained post in the US House of Representatives Second Congressional district, earning 5,270 votes (75.93 percent) in Coahoma County with Republican nominee Brian Flowers having 1,667 votes (24.02 percent) locally.

U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., and U.S. Representatives Steven Palazzo, R-Miss, Trent Kelly, R-Miss., and Michael Guest, R-Miss., released the following statement on the 2020 election on Friday.
“Americans should have confidence in our voting system and that all ballots have been submitted correctly and legally. This is precisely what President Trump and his legal team are seeking.
“Any allegations of voting irregularities, including ballot tampering or voting by ineligible persons, should be investigated and adjudicated to the fullest extent of the law.
“It is essential to our democracy and the integrity of our elections that this process be allowed to play out in full view of the American people, and that election observers from both sides of the aisle be allowed to participate.
“Neither the media nor states should rush to declare a winner in closely contested states until all legally-cast ballots have been counted and all legal challenges and required recounts have been resolved.”
