One person has been shot by law enforcement as sheriff’s deputies tried to serve a search warrant on a house in Clarkdsale.
Coahoma County Sheriff Charles Jones said no officers were injured, but a man was shot and later taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis Monday morning.
“Our guys are all right and I don’t want to comment on details as this is an ongoing investigation,” said Jones. “MBI (Mississippi Bureau of Investigation) has been called in and they are investigating this incident.”
MBI is routinely called in anytime someone is shot by law enforcement to conduct an independent investigation to see if policy and procedure were followed.
The shooting happened about 8:30 a.m. Monday morning as deputies were serving a warrant at a home in the 900 block of Pecan Street, on the west side of the Sunflower River in Clarksdale.
This was the second officer-involved shooting in Clarksdale this year and the third in 18-months.
In January the sheriff’s department was executing a search warrant about 6:30 a.m. on a home in the 400 Block of Florida Street when the incident occurred.
In September, deputies were involved in a shooting incident after they stopped a car in the 900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard at the corner with Bolivar Avenue.
The shooting victim in both incidents were taken to local and area hospitals and later recovered.
Again, MBI was called in to investigate both of these shootings.
Authorities have not released any more information on this incident or the condition of the victim since a brief two paragraph statement was issued Monday morning.
