The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department has reported an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning in east Clarksdale.
A press release from the Sheriff’s Department said authorities were executing a search warrant about 6:30 a.m. on a home in the 400 Block of Florida Street when the incident occurred.
“An officer involved shooting did occur where the suspect was shot,” said Sgt. Will Rooker, Public Information Officer for the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office in the press release. “The suspect has been transported to the hospital by ambulance.”
The shooting is being investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, who is traditionally called whenever authorities are involved in a shooting.
No other information was given by the department on this shooting.
There were two other officer-involved shootings in Mississippi over the weekend. One happened on Highway 51 in Coldwater on Saturday and the second in Tunica on Sunday.
The Clarksdale officer-involved shooting was the second in less than a year.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations was also called in to investigate a shooting involving a law enforcement officer in Clarksdale in September.
That incident occurred in the 900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard at the corner with Bolivar Avenue and also involved a Sheriff’s Department officer.
In that incident authorities were attempting a traffic stop at about 4:40 p.m., when shots were fired.
The victim in that shooting was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Memphis. He recovered from the shooting, but his attorney has approached the county seeking damages from the incident.
Again, MBI was called in to investigate that shooting.
