Lee Academy jumped out to a 1-0 lead when freshman striker Tatum Young ran to a long ball and poked it into the goal during the first half, but the Fillies could not hang on.
Washington School scored three goals in the second half to win at Lee 3-1 Monday afternoon.
“We were fresher,” said Fillies soccer coach Joseph Natalizio on the difference between the first and second half. “We closed out on balls, but honestly we made the same mistakes all game. We were letting them have a lot of room and once we got more tired, it came back to bite us.”
Lee goalie Merri Evelyn Evans had around eight saves. Washington School had 10 shots on goal to Lee’s six.
“Playing a bigger school, they were good, but we play them away later on in the year,” Natalizio said. “We had our opportunities. We could have taken them. We’ve just got to clean some stuff up. We’ve got some new girls and we’re still learning.”
The Fillies are currently third in their conference. All schools in the division earn a playoff spot, but Lee is vying to finish in second to earn a home playoff game.
Lee (1-3, 1-1) was scheduled to host Magnolia Heights School Wednesday, Aug. 19, travel to Columbus Christian for a division game at 4 p.m. Monday and travel to Indianola Academy for a division game at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26.
