There is a hunger in the stomach and soul of many in Clarkdale right now.
Friendship AME Church hosted a Drive-Thru Food Give Away Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church parking lot on Walnut St.).
“I don’t think people realize how many hungry children and senior citizens we have in our community right now,” said Rev. Gwendolyn Pitts. “I believe once you minister to filling the physical need it opens the door to the filling the spiritual need.”
Pitt said the event was held in conjunction with Mid-South Food Bank and those seeking a food box will be required to present a photo ID to prove they are a Coahoma County resident.
There was a limit of one box, milk and tray of eggs per household and the public was asked to please wear a mask.
Pitts said food distribution went smoothly and she thanked Clarksdale police, firefighters, her church voluntters and Pleasant Valley Pastor John Givins for allowing his church to be the site of the distribution.
