A local woman was struck and killed by a car as she attempted to cross State Street this past weekend.
The Clarksdale Police Department was called to the 700 block of State Street about 7 p.m. Saturday after a southbound car struck a 48-year-old, black female from Clarksdale who was trying to get to a local gas station on the opposite side of the highway.
“It looks like she tried to cross and apparently didn’t see the car coming,” said Assistant Clarksdale Police Chief Vince Ramirez. “We conducted our investigation to see if alcohol was involved with anyone who was involved with this. No charges have been brought at this time against anyone, but the investigation is continuing.”
Ramirez said police were not releasing the name of the victim or the name of the driver of the car, other than to say the car and driver were from Memphis.
