Police seeking information on recent crimes


The Clarksdale Police Department is asking for the community's help in curtailing crime and urges residents to call police immediately if they are the victim of a crime.

Clarksdale Assistant Chief Vince Ramirez has asked anyone with information about the following incidents to call the Clarksdale Police Department at 621-8156, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or simply dial 911. All calls remain anonymous and cash is paid to those providing information that leads to solving this crime.


Shots Fired


The Clarksdale Police Department responded to the 700 block of Mississippi Street last week in reference to a shooting into a dwelling.

Police said they spoke with Martez Howard who said in his house, heard gunshots and discovered three rounds had hit his residence.

Officers checked and found several bullet holes in the residence and a .357-cal shell casing was recovered in the roadway.


Commercial burglary


Officers responded to 300 block of Delta Ave., June 9 in reference to a commercial burglary.

Jeccorry Miller told police he came to his place of business and noticed that someone had broken in. Two televisions, a Peavey amplifier and microphone and a Mossberg shotgun were reported taken.

The suspect gained entry into the business by breaking out a window.


Shooting into vehicle


On June 3 officers responded to the 2100 block of Reinhart Street in reference to a subject shooting into a vehicle.

Police spoke with Davelin Melton who told them he drove up to 2115 Reinhart to speak with his child’s mother.

Melton told police Jonathon Bayes pulled up and started shooting at him striking his vehicle and Bayes left the scene before police arrived.

Arrest made in shooting


A report of shots fired in early June has resulted in the arrest of a man the next day.

Terry Michael Williams, 30, was arrested by the Clarksdale Police Department for the shooting of a man on Chickasaw Street on June 2.

Williams is charged with aggravated assault and was placed in the Coahoma County Jail to await his initial appearance in Clarksdale Municipal Court.
