Clarksdale Police are seeking information on a shooting early Thursday morning that sent a man to a Memphis hospital. Police are also seeking information on three burglaries reported Wednesday.
Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of Magnolia Street at about 2:30 a.m. today and found a man sitting on a porch who had been shot several times.
Police have identified the victim as Barry Smith and said he told them he saw two men wearing all black outside his house and when he went outside to investigate they attempted to rob him.
Smith told police he attempted to run away and that was when he was shot.
Smith was transported to the North Mississippi Regional Medical Center emergency room and later transported to Region One hospital in Memphis.
Burglaries
Police are seeking information on three burglaries that occurred Wednesday.
The first was reported at 9 a.m. in the 300 block of Sunflower Avenue when the owner came to work and found someone had broken into the garage of his downtown business.
The police report said a grinder, weed eater, battery charger, skill saw and welding tools were taken.
At 11 a.m. officers responded to the 1700 block of Evans about a burglary.
The owner said she came home to find that some unknown person had broken into her shed and stolen washing powder, bleach, cleaning supplies and cigars.
At 6 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to the 1100 block of Espy Drive in reference to a residential burglary.
The homeowner said she came home and discovered someone had broken into her house and stolen a television from the front room.
These incidents have been turned over to Clarksdale Police Department investigators.
