It is amazing what people throw away and don’t realize what they have gotten rid of. I have a friend that works for a landfill as a bulldozer operator. His sole responsibility is to push trash into areas that will be covered by dirt so the land can eventually be used again.
This concept of landfill is a good idea because we have so much trash on this earth that we need to put it somewhere. Why not bury it in the earth and cover it up. One would have to guess what the earth will look like and have inside its confines a 1,000 years from now.
As my friend works each day he helps individuals that bring their own trash or personal belongings to this landfill. Many will back their cars or trucks up to certain areas and dump what they do not want any more. It is strictly amazing at the products and items brought to this landfill.
The old saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is a very true statement. I really have to believe that some people have no idea of what they are throwing away.
The same holds true for our personal lives also.
So many of us walk this earth and don’t realize what we have and the opportunities that are lying in front of us and waiting for us to absorb them. We see and hear what God can and will do for us and all He asks is that we believe on Him and accept Him as our Lord and Savior.
Once we do this our lives will change and the old sinful nature that we are used to will not be important any more.
Every day that my friend works he will notice something that has been discarded by individuals or hauled in by a trash truck that will catch his attention.
On many occasions he has found valuables such as jewelry, piggy banks with money, furniture, clothes and many other items that have worth being discarded by someone who didn’t take the time to realize what they really had.
All of us have valuable items that will be left behind when we leave this earth. These valuables will be discarded by someone who is not willing to check out their worth and will throw them away. All of us need to realize that we are valuable to God and all He asks us to do is accept Him through faith and our reward will be eternity with Him.
It is a shame that so many of us do not realize what God offers us through Jesus and we throw away the opportunity of eternal salvation. Once we accept Jesus into our hearts, then nothing else on earth has the value we put on it. Missing out on eternity is missing out on God’s plan for us.
We have become so entwined into what the world is telling us that many are not willing to let go of the old sinful nature and accept God’s amazing grace. Many people are discarding the most precious possession you can have by throwing it away just as people have thrown out good objects into a landfill.
We need to remember what the Psalmist tells us in Psalm 78:32, “In spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of all his wonders, they did not believe.”
