I marvel at the colors in the rainbow when I see one going across the sky. God’s beauty of these colors cannot be duplicated even though many have tried. There is something majestic about the arch of brilliant colors streaming across the sky. Many, as I do, find it worth looking at a rainbow because of its beauty. Also, if anyone has ever seen the end of the rainbow please let me know and if there was for sure a pot of gold there.
Have you ever stopped to realize why we have rainbows? It is a reminder from God that He will never flood the earth again as He did when Noah, his family, and all the animals were on the Ark. It is God’s promise to never destroy the entire human race or animals with a flood again. All one must do is read Genesis 9:12-13 in the Bible to see what God said about the covenant between Him and the earth.
In 1917 a Vaudeville song was published by Joseph McCarthy and sung by the Dolly Sisters. It was a very popular song and people seemed to understand it because of what many of us are going through in our daily lives. Read the following lyrics and see if you pertain to them or know someone that does.
“Why have I always been a failure?
What the reason be?
I wonder if the world is to blame; I wonder
if it could be me.
I’m always chasing rainbows, watching
clouds drifting by;
My schemes are just like all my dreams,
ending in the sky.
Some fellas look and find the sunshine, I
always look and find the rain;
Some fellas make a winning some time, I
never ever make a gain.
Believe me, I’m always chasing rainbows;
Waiting to find a little bluebird; in vain.”
All of us, whether we realize it or not, are chasing rainbows. We are always looking for something more beautiful and plentiful than we have. When we are young, we are looking for ways to grow and become successful. We watch others and try to emulate what they have done to have a better life for our self and our families; however it doesn’t always work out for the best.
Many of us put our sights on earthly things instead of stopping and realizing that God is in control and will guide us through life if we will just allow Him to do it. When we fail it is usually a problem we have created, and we start reaching for heaven to help us overcome them. Many times, our trust in man becomes tainted when promises are not kept. On occasion this takes away our hope in others and our dreams become shattered.
When we are chasing rainbows, we need to realize that man is not going to help up catch one. God is the only way that we will ever achieve our dreams and expectations if we keep our eyes on Him. God promises to never leave us or forsake us. All we must do is put our trust in Him and follow Him in all that we do. God gave us a beautiful rainbow as a promise that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood. He has never reneged on His promises and He never will.
