In today’s society we look around and see people that are trying to be someone other than themselves. Most of this happens when younger people try to act in a manner that doesn’t fit them or trying to be something more than they really are. Most of the time this will get most of them in trouble as time goes forward.
It really isn’t a good thing to speak words about yourself trying to boost your image when you know it is a stretched version of the truth. Over my years in the media business I have witnessed people trying to tell me something about themselves or about someone else that I knew was not correct. Immediately I wanted to label these people as someone that couldn’t be trusted. When this happens to me and probably to anyone else, it takes a long time, if ever, for these people to earn our trust in them.
I found a long time ago that being yourself in any situation will always give a better result than if you try to flavor it with untruths. There is a difference between trying to be something you are not and self-confidence. I would never take away a person’s self-confidence or weaken their perspective on life.
Some self-proclaimed Christians do the same thing. On the outside or in front of their friends and neighbors many act as though they are God’s chosen child but out of sight of these people are totally different. Why would anyone want to act in this manner?
When you are a true follower of Jesus you don’t think about living in a two-fold world. Yes, there are going to be times when a true follower of Christ will fall and give in to temptation but he or she will always have the opportunity of asking Jesus for forgiveness. However when a person lives as the world lives and takes his eyes off Jesus they will receive forgiveness based on their heart and not on their actions. If their heart is a true follower of Christ they will repent and turn away from their wayward actions.
We are told in Proverbs 3:5-6; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
All of us need to follow these instructions and be the person who Christ wants us to be.
