The boil water notice for Friars Point Water System has been lifted by the Mississippi Department of Health and the system's water is safe to drink.
The Friars Point issued a boil notice on Thursday for residents on the town water system and customers should boil any water for consumption.
The water system suffered a mechanical problem, lost pressure and the system was inundated with groundwater, prompting the boil notice.
Customers are not to drink the water, wash dishes, brush their teeth or cook with the water unless it has been boiled. Health officials say boiling the water for 20-minutes and allowing it to cool will make it safe. Customers can wash their hands and bathe in the water but should avoid swallowing it.
The Mississippi Department of Health has been notified and customers with concerns should call water supply officials at 662-383-2233.
