The Coahoma County boys and girls basketball teams both improved to 6-1 on the 2018-19 season with victories at Madison Palmer High School this past Friday night.
The Red Panthers earned a 74-37 victory with five players in scoring position.
Markevious Holmes scored 17 points.
Bentavious Galmore followed with 16.
Alshun Ross had 13.
Jai’Sheldon Yates and Markevius Phillips scored 10 apiece.
The Lady Red Panthers had just as easy a time with a 47-15 victory at Madison Palmer.
Nyriah Artis, Calysia Phillips and Shakira Artis scored 11 points each for the Lady Red Panthers.
Madison Palmer remained winless on the season for both the boys and girls following the losses to Coahoma County.
Coahoma County begins district play at home against Leland Dec. 14.
The Leland girls are the district champions, but the Lady Red Panthers advanced to the state semifinals last season.
The Red Panthers will begin their quest to three-peat as Class 2A state champions in games that matter for the playoff standings.
Coahoma County hosts Nettleton Dec. 15, is at West Tallahatchie Dec. 21 and then plays in the Coahoma Early College High School Christmas tournament Dec. 26 and 27.
The Delta Valley Conference Tournament follows on Dec. 28 and 29 before 2019 begins.
