Another home has been shot into and police are once again looking for the culprit.
Clarksdale has seen more than a dozen homes shot into over the past two months with an uptick in the number of shooting reports this month.
While shooting into the homes of rivals is a know terror tactic of gangs, it is not known if these incidents are gang related. Police are urging the community to call them if they have any information about this incident, the recent rash of shootings or about gang violence and threats in Clarksdale.
The latest incident occurred in west Clarksdale with Officers responding to the 800 block of Cuyahoga Street in reference to shots fired.
When officers arrived on the scene it was determined the residence was fired into multiple times.
Authorities did not give how many times the house was fired upon, what type of weapon might have been used or if this was a drive-by shooting.
No injuries were reported in this incident.
The Clarksdale Police Department is also asking the community help find the person or persons responsible for gunfire that hit a 13-year-old girl Friday night Dec. 15.
In that incident officers responded to the 100 block of Douglas Street in reference to a shooting shortly before 10 p.m. Upon investigation, police determined a gunman fired numerous shots into the residence striking a thirteen-year-old who was sleeping in the bed.
The child was transported to the local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
No other injuries were reported in this incident.
Officers responded to the 700 block of Lynn Street the previous week in reference to a shooting and determined the home had been fired upon and a bullet hit the homeowner in the foot.
Acting swiftly, police made a traffic stop and made an arrest in that incident.
Joseph McClenton, 26, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
The first week of December reported several incidents where someone shot into a home and while no arrests have been made or suspect named, police are again looking for the community’s help in solving these crimes.
In one of these incidents a woman was hit by gunfire and it has been deemed an aggravated assault if an arrest is made.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Douglas Street in reference to shots fired. Upon investigating the incident, officers discovered the residence was fired into numerous times striking a female at least once.
Police did not give the extent of her injuries.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Jefferson Street in reference to shots fired. Upon investigating the incident, officers discovered the residence was fired into numerous times. No injuries were reported in this shooting.
Officers responded to the 900 block of West Haven Circle in reference to shots fired. Upon investigating the incident, officers discovered the residence was fired into numerous times.
The resident was not home at the time of the shooting. No injuries reported.
Police did not give a motive for these shootings, if they were related, if shell casings were recovered or a description of the shooter or their vehicle.
Neighbors are urged to contact police if they saw someone committing these crimes.
Shooting into a home is a serious offense and anyone who shoots into any house or any other building usually occupied by persons, whether actually occupied or not is guilty of a felony whether or not anybody is injured.
Upon conviction they will be punished by imprisonment in the state penitentiary for a term not to exceed ten years, or by imprisonment in the county jail, fined up to $5,000, forced to pay restitution for damages, all within the discretion of the court.
