PARCHMAN - The Mississippi Department of Corrections, with the help of other authorities, is searching for an escaped inmate from the Mississippi State Penitentiary (MSP) in Sunflower County on Tuesday morning.
Inmate Nevin Whetstone #56663, is serving a life sentence for capital murder-rape committed in Lee County and one year for escape from the Sunflower County Jail.
Whetstone, 71, is described at a white male, approximately 6-feet tall and weighing 175 with brown eyes. He may be wearing green and white pants.
If you see someone matching this description, do no approach him, but call 911 immediately.
How Whetstone escaped or a possible direction of travel is not known at this time. Local and regional authorities have been notified and contacting them should get an immediate response.
Whetworth was sentenced on December 14, 1984 for the August 1993 murder and rape of Loretta Darlene Steele.
