He is a good ball player with good eyes and a strong arm, but he is known more for his leadership and strong work ethic.
Lee Academy’s James Chicorelli signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Jones Community College recently as classmates and coaches looked on.
“This scholarship means a lot to me and it means I still get to play ball,” said Chicorelli. “I liked the facilities and coaches (at Jones). It’s a good fit for me.”
Chicorelli said Jones coaches told him they liked both his offensive and defensive skills. He will be playing outfield at Jones.
Lee Academy basebeball coach Jamell Newson said Chicorelli has speed and understands the game.
“He hits at the top of the lineup, he has quick hands and feet and steals bases,” said Newson. “He’s an all-around athlete and a leader. He will do well at Jones.”
Chicorelli still has one more spring with Lee Academy and takes to the field with the Colts on Feb. 14 at Tunica Academy.
