Congratulations to 2014 Clarksdale High School graduate Elgton Jenkins on an excellent NFL season.
Jenkins finished his second season in the NFL, has been a starter for the Green Bay Packers his first two seasons and earned a spot on the NFC Pro Bowl roster.
The Packers have been in the NFC Championship both of Jenkins’ seasons and just one game away from the Super Bowl.
The Packers fell at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-26 in the NFC Championship Sunday.
I know there have been debates throughout the media about decisions the Packers made during the game, particularly when they were in a fourth and goal situation down 31-23 late in the fourth quarter and opted to kick the field goal.
Personally, I think either decision would have made sense. It is very easy for fans to second guess.
What is important is to focus on Jenkins, the great season he had and how his efforts put the Packers in a position to win.
Jenkins did an excellent job of protecting future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers all season long. Rodgers had a great season even by his own standards and Jenkins was a big part of the reason.
After the Packers’ loss on Sunday, Jenkins’ mom, Delandra wrote on social media, “Win or Lose, you know I’m rocking Greenbay all day, with my boy!!!!!!! One thing for certain, I’m riding that wave. Thanks Clarksdale and surrounding areas for the support. We are in it to win it. Forever Jenkins#74. I’m soooo proud of my boy. His #1fan.”
I think we all should share those sentiments.
Will Jenkins be a Packer for the remainder of his NFL career?
I honestly do not know. I cannot say he will be in the NFC Championship Game every year.
I can say, whatever happens and wherever Jenkins goes, he has a long and bright future in the NFL with many memories to come.
Let’s keep watching!
