The Clarksdale Police Department received photos recently of a family who had possibly been kidnapped.
Police received photos of bound children about Friday evening, July 8, prompting a massive hunt by six agencies that lasted until about 12:30 a.m. when the children were ultimately located in good condition in Bobo.
Details of the incident are sketchy and authorities have said it apparently started as a domestic issue and escalated. The woman allegedly involved in the incident is under investigation for a variety of crimes.
The man accused of the kidnapping was at work and the woman’s story quickly unraveled when law enforcement put together the details.
“One of our units initially got the photos,” said Clarksdale Assistant Chief Vincent Rameriz. “We found out the incident started in Friars Point and there was evidence they might be over the levee. The case has been turned over the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department.”
“Detectives spent the next couple of hours making calls, questioning last known associates, and checking a wooded area,” Clarksdale Police said in a prepared statement. “Shortly after 12:30 a.m. detectives located the family of five in an area south of Clarksdale.”
CPD would like to thank the Coahoma County Sheriff Office, Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, Coahoma County search and rescue, Coahoma County Levee Board and Pafford Medical services.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with information about the situation to contact them.
