Lee Academy baseball is 3-2 in district play after sweeping North Delta in three games last week and losing two to Marshall Academy on Monday.
Marshall Academy defeated the Colts 2-1 in eight innings in the second game of a doubleheader at Lee Monday.
Lee took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, Marshall Academy tied things up in the sixth and won the game in the eighth.
Marshall Academy pitchers struck out ten, while Lee Academy’s sat down seven.In the top of the sixth inning, Marshall Academy tied things up at one when Graydon Gullick's wild pitch allowed one run to score.
Gullick took the loss for Lee, but lasted seven innings allowing four hits and two runs while striking out five. He went 1-for-3 from the plate to lead the Colts (7-7) in hits.
The Colts did not commit any errors in the field.
Russell Cook had the most chances in the field with 10.
Lee lost the first game of the doubleheader 7-0.
Marshall Academy got things going scoring three runs in the first inning.
Gullick did manage to connect on a single for Lee in the first inning.
Ryan Mooney took the loss for Lee going seven innings allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out three.
James Chicorelli went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lee Academy in hits.
The Colts completed the sweep against North Delta with a 6-2 victory Friday.
“We played really well this week,” said Lee coach Brock McKnight after sweeping North Delta. “We didn’t play up to our potential, our best today, but a win’s a win. The kids worked hard. The kids did what we were supposed to do.”
Cook got things going driving one run in the first inning. They notched three runs in the second inning with the help of errors on balls Ethan Dalton and Aidan Byrd put in play.
Cook was the winning pitcher lasting four innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out seven. Tanner Fava threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
McKnight was pleased with the pitching against North Delta.
“Ryan Mooney and Graydon Gullick were phenomenal on Monday,” McKnight said. “Tanner Fava and Russell Cook were good today. So nothing to complain about there.”
Jackson Spinks went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lee Academy in hits Friday.
McKnight felt his team’s hitting improved as the season went along.
“It’s just repetition, being ready to play, being ready to hit,” McKnight said. “Our guys have bought into what we’re doing and it’s paying off so we’re ready for the next one.”
Lee is at Marshall Academy at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Next week the Colts will conclude district matchups against Kirk Academy.
