Coahoma County High School co-Valedictorians Calviyuna Johnson and Armonia Redmon urged their classmates to remember both the tools and memories they were given at Coahoma County make decisions wisely as the Class of 2023 heads out into the world.
Johnson and Redmon were keynote speakers in a ceremony that saw CCHS graduating Class of 2023 accept their diplomas, Saturday morning June 2, in front of a packed house at The Pinnacle on the campus of Coahoma Community College.
“Be more than successful, be of value,” said Redmon. “Each of us had our own personal journey at Coahoma. We made every minute count and we need to face life with that positive attitude.”
Johnson said the memories started when classes started for her in 2017 and she was asked to set her mind on graduating.
“And today we are here,” said Johnson. “Today we become graduates of Coahoma County High School. I want to thank everyone who helped me get here. I want to thank God and urge each of you to keep Him first in your life.”
Saturday’s ceremonies opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and an invocation by Miketavius Stokes, who along with Kendall Brooks, Cordale Coley, and Zanedria Martin graduated with Highest Honors.
The Farewell address was given by Anaya Jones.
School Board President Rico Smith, said his speech would be brief: “To the Class of 2023, Congratulations!”
Coahoma County Superintendent Dr. Virginia Young said this was her first graduating class as superintendent.
“These are some very special kids,” said Young. “I am so proud of you. To the parents I want to thank you for giving us your children day after day and then celebrating this day with us.”
There were 65 students listed in the program and diplomas were handed out with the assistance of CCHS Principal DeShun Readus and the school administration.
Salutatorians were Zamaya Burnside and Dasia Galmore. Calvin J. Johnson graduated with Distinguished Honors and Honor Graduates were Chamaya Abrams, Camyla Bee, Justin Done, Eriana Holden, Anaya Jones, Iyonia Murray, Kaylin Ross and Ganiya Tucker. Itterrion Evans was named Great Teacher Condor.
Class sponsors were Roderick Robinson, Dominique Hines, Denise Calhoun, Kenyetta Shaw and Ralph Scott.
The Coahoma County School Board of Trustees is made up of Rico Smith, Milroy Harris, Gerald Johnson, Coreen Richardson and Johnnie Moore
The Class Motto was “Four years we’ll never forget, even if we did some things we regret.”
