There was good weather, a good time for a good cause and some pretty good golf.
The Clarksdale American Legion hosted it’s annual golf tournament at Clarksdale Country Club with young and old enjoying the links and raising funds for youth and veterans.
“The American Legion Golf Tournament greatly appreciates Clarksdale’s support for our annual fund raiser,” said Sammy Chow, tournament director. “The many generous donations from the businesses, sponsors and players are the reason we are able to give back to our community.”
The purpose of the tournament was to raise funds to serve our community,” said Chow. Funds are used to recognize outstanding high school seniors with citizenship awards, support local sports programs and send young people to Boys State and Girls State.
The funds are also given to local veterans in need are given assistance. Twice a year, on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, American Flags are placed on the grave of each veteran at two cemeteries in Clarksdale.
The 18-hole, one-day tournament got underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with tournament officials naming winners about noon.
The tournament was a one-day, three-person scramble with winners named and prizes delivered the day of the tournament.
