Everybody loves a parade as long as things go smoothly.
The City of Clarksdale is publicizing details of tonight Christmas Parade, which starts at 7 p.m., and is asking the public to exercise caution and follow a few simple rules.
Parents are asked to keep young children in hand, especially when crossing streets or walking along streets that are not on the parade route. Teenagers are reminded to act like adults and walk - don't run - across streets.
The public is asked not to cross the parade route during the parade.
And as always, motorist are being asked to be especially cautious before and after the parade and look out for children and adults walking home. Pedestrians are reminded to stay on the safety of sidewalks to avoid a serious accident.
The parade route is as follows.
- Start at Riverside and First Street Bridge.
- East on First Street Bridge.
- Right on Sunflower Avenue to East Second.
- Left on West Second to Leflore Street.
- Right on Leflore Street to Third Street.
- Right on Third Street to Sunflower Avenue.
- Right on Sunflower Avenue to First Street.
- Left on First Street and proceed across First Street Bridge.
- Parade Ends.
Details for staging and helping the parade run smoothly are:
- Line up for bands and other entries will begin between 5:00PM and 5:30PM
- Line up for Bands will be on Riverside between West Second Street and Cherry Street.
- Line up for other entries will begin on Riverside at the First Street Bridge and will go south to West Second Street and then turn and continue on West Second Street in the 100-200 blocks.
- There will be a firework show after the parade off of the Second Street Bridge.
- Second Street Bridge will be closed at 4:00PM to allow the firework vendor to set up on the bridge.
- First Street Bridge will remain open until about 6:30pm.
