Rep.Bennie G.Thompson has responded to what he has deemed Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith's false statement regarding the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) veto of the Yazoo Pumps Project.
"Today, Senator Hyde-Smith accused me of advocating for the Yazoo Pumps Project in Mississippi while not supporting it in Washington," said Thompson in a prepared statement. "The Senator is wrong.
"I have gone on record in support of this project, and it is documented," said Thompson added. "Now, she has the burden to produce a list of the people I have spoken to against the pumps project. If she cannot produce the list, it is clear she is not telling the truth."
Earlier this week the United States Environmental Protection Agency transmitted a letter to the Army for Civil Works regarding the Yazoo Pumps Project.
In the letter, EPA explains that the 2020 Proposed Plan for the Yazoo Pumps Project is prohibited by EPA's 2008 Clean Water Act Section 404(c) Final Detennination. To read the letter and view full press release, visit www.epa.gov/newsreleases.
