Lucienne “Lucy” Hite, beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, passed away on Aug. 20, 2022 from health complications. Lucy was born November 7, 1951 in Wynne, Arkansas to the late C. W. and Blanche Hite.
She grew up in Clarksdale, graduating from Coahoma County High School and Delta State. She was always fiercely independent, standing up for her principles and beliefs. In the early 70’s as a student at DSU, she mobilized the effort that eventually resulted in women being allowed to live off-campus, a privilege that previously was only afforded to men.
Lucy lived all her adult life in Jackson, retiring a few years ago as accounting manager for Porter & Malouf.
Lucy leaves her brother, Bill (Lacy) of Batesville; sisters, Cathy (Bob) Weston of West Chester, Ohio and Jerre (Glenn) Harris of Hernando; along with her many nieces and nephews whom she loved beyond measure. She was also blessed with many Hite and Wood cousins and many friends including an especially tight and supportive group fondly referred to as “the divas.”
In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of Lucy’s life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022 at 2 p. m. at Oakmont Clubhouse, 7301 Old Canton Road, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
Please wear Lucy’s favorite color, purple, and join us as we celebrate her life.
