A shooting in Clarksdale has been followed by police arresting a man on Aggravated Assault charges and also Shooting Into A Dwelling.
A statement issued by police said they were called to 905 Sasse Street after a 20-year-old black female was shot in the back while inside an apartment.
Police have arrested Dalvin Smith, 28, on felony charges of Aggravated Assault and Shooting Into A Dwelling.
If any person shoots a firearm of any nature or description into any house or any other building usually occupied by persons, whether actually occupied or not, they shall be guilty of a felony whether or not anybody is injured.
Upon conviction they will be punished by imprisonment in the state penitentiary for a term not to exceed ten years, or by imprisonment in the county jail, fined up to $5,000, forced to pay restitution for damages, all within the discretion of the court.
Aggravated assault is defined as injury or threat to a person to make them fear for their life or assault with a weapon. It is punishable by up to 20-years in prison and a $10,000 fine. An adult who assaults a juvenile can find the penalty enhanced to 30-years in prison.
Bond was set in Municipal Court at $60,000. Local bonding companies can typically get people out of jail for 10-percent of their court bond.
