A man died in a Memorial Day Weekend accident in Tunica County and was one of four people who died over the holiday on Mississippi highways.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said a 2005 Ford Focus driven by 37-year-old Jhajuan M. Milan, of Sarah, was traveling east on Highway 4 when it left the roadway and collided with a culvert.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:48 a.m. on Sunday, May 26,with the Mississippi Highway Patrol responding to the crash in Tunica County.
The Highway Patrol said Milan received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol was busy over the holiday weekend trying to make the roads safer and issued a total of 7,026 citations, made 118 arrests for impaired driving, and cited 864 motorists for seatbelt violations. MHP also investigated 135 crashes resulting in 53 injuries with four fatal crashes. The fatal crashes occurred in Benton, Tunica, Itawamba and Harrison counties.
Benton County
On Friday, May 24, 2024, at approximately 6 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Highway 4 in Benton County.
A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 48-year-old Dwight Holcomb of Lamar, was traveling east on Highway 4 when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a utility pole. Holcomb received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Itawamba County
On Sunday, May 26, 2024, at approximately 10:13 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Highway 25 in Itawamba County.
A 2006 Toyota Prius driven by 59-year-old Kenneth G. Cook of Smithville, was traveling north on Highway 25 when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Cook received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Harrison County
On Sunday, May 26, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 10 in Harrison County.
A 2015 Harley-Davidson operated by 39-year-old Roy Dale Holden Jr. of Denham Springs, La., and a 16-year-old passenger were traveling east on Interstate 10 when the passenger fell from the moving motorcycle. A 2009 Harley-Davidson operated by 43-year-old Amanda Holden, and the wife of Roy Holden, was also traveling east on
Interstate 10 when she and two other motorcycles took evasive actions to avoid hitting the passenger and
crashed.
Two people were transported via ambulance from the scene while two others were airlifted. Amanda Holden
received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This crash remains remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
