Evelyn Salmon Lacy Roberson, widow of Shedric Hill Roberson, born Feb. 10, 1927, to Evelyn Salmon Lacy and Charles Allen Lacy, Jr. in Memphis, Tenn., passed away March 8, 2021 at her home in Clarksdale.
She graduated from Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale. She graduated from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA, in the class of 1949 where she was very active in campus life. She served on the student council and was a dormitory president, campus beauty and a club president her junior and senior years.
Evelyn loved her church, First United Methodist Church, where she was very active for 90-plus years. For 14 years, she taught Sunday School in the elementary department and served on many different church committees. She felt especially blessed to serve on the Altar Guild for many years.
Evelyn taught Spanish and English at Clarksdale High School, Clarksdale-Coahoma High School and Lee Academy for a total of 29 years. She loved playing tennis and was an avid fan of Ole Miss football.
Evelyn’s greatest love was her Lord and her family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Blackwell Nance, Jr., her parents and her three sisters. She is survived by her three children: Lacy Nance Evans (Bill) of Johns Creek, Ga., Candace Nance Bobo (Bob III) of Clarksdale and Robert Blackwell Nance III (Jane Kerr) of Oxford, MS and her six grandchildren: Lacy Bobo Carpenter (Preston) of Memphis, Tenn., Elizabeth Bobo Auttonberry (Clay) of Memphis, Tenn., Thomas William Belleperche, Jr. of Alpharetta, Ga., Robert Scott Belleperche (Crystal) of Chicago, Ill., Robert Blackwell Nance IV of Austin, Texas and Jane Graham Nance of Oxford. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Evelyn Hensley Carpenter, Katherine Caswell Carpenter, Ann Farley Carpenter and James Clayton Auttonberry III.
A private family graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 11, 2021 at Oakridge Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Clarksdale United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 11, 2021 for anyone wishing to attend. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.
