The Nation's Weather for Friday, August 18, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
There is the potential for severe thunderstorms to develop
tomorrow across most of New England as a strong cold front
tracks eastward, with the risk for damaging wind gusts, hail
and tornadoes lasting into the early evening. Farther west
across New York, occasional showers are expected as cooler,
drier conditions arrive through the Great Lakes and portions
of the Ohio Valley. Elsewhere, high pressure will ensure dry
conditions from the Plains across the South and into much of
the Southeast, with the exceptions being where thunderstorms
may spread across Florida and the Outer Banks of North
Carolina. In the West, a cold front will bring additional
relief from the heat near the Pacific Northwest coast.
However, monsoon thunderstorm activity will rebuild around
the Four Corners region.
