The Nation's Weather for Tuesday, January 9, 2024
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
A massive storm will bring heavy rain and high winds to many
areas of the Eastern states today into tonight. The rain
will pour down fast with surging temperatures, leading to
rapid flooding of urban areas, small streams and, later on,
some of the major rivers. Severe thunderstorms will push
eastward across the Southeast states. Some of the strongest
storms may produce damaging wind gusts and tornadoes, in
addition to flash flooding. Heavy snow with increasing winds
will lead to difficult travel from the central Plains to
part of the Midwest. Local blizzard conditions are likely.
The same storm will bring a period of ice and snow to the
central Appalachians and interior Northeast ahead of the big
rain and flooding. Meanwhile, a surge of Arctic air and a
storm will lead to snow over much of the Northwest.
