Lyon Mayor Sawyer honored for 20 years of service

Lyon Mayor Woody Sawyer is retiring from his position after 20 years of service.
Sawyer did not run for reelection this year. His term expires at the end of June.
Jamie Gaston, who ran unopposed in the recent election, will take office as mayor on July 1.

Supervisors take back control of Farrell multipurpose building

The Coahoma County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved taking back control of the Farrell multipurpose building on Mississippi Highway 1.
The vote came during the first meeting of June.

CARES holds crawfish fundraiser

Clarksdale Animal Rescue Effort & Shelter (CARES) held its first crawfish festival by the Delta Blues Museum stage in late May in an effort to raise money.
One of CARES’s programs is working with the pet food pantry. More than 50,000 pounds of food has been distributed in the Delta.
