University of Mississippi cornerback Patrick “Luh Pat” Broomfield, a 2024 Clarksdale High School graduate, made the holiday season a little better for several local children.
Broomfield hosted a Christmas toy giveaway at the Coahoma County Expo Center on the afternoon of Dec. 21, 2025.

Smith names CPR's 2025 top athlete

Coahoma County High School senior Zechariah Smith excels at four different sports.
Smith’s positions on the football field include fullback, middle linebacker, quarterback, kicker and punter. He is also a power forward on the basketball team, a pitcher on the baseball team and throws the shot put in track.

Members of New Jerusalem Missionary Church supported by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, City of Clarksdale Fire Department, and Mississippi Delta Council prepare to deliver 50 Thanksgiving meals to share with senior citizens, disabled, and homeless community members. The church Sunday School ministry under the leadership of Johnny and Margaret McGlown, Troy and Shirley Catchings and Linda Downing started this outreach initiative over 25 years ago. It has since grown into an event that allows for multiple community entities to join together to benefit the community. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity donates cooked poultry and the Mississippi Delta Council shared canned goodies. This year, New Jerusalem purchased sleeping bags for homeless community members. Working with Chief Lane they will be used by the homeless during cold nights at the Clarksdale City Auditorium.
