A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in relation to a robbery near an ATM machine in Clarksdale on Friday.
Mitchell Benton was arrested at 11:20 a.m. Friday in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Alabama Street.
Officers with the Clarksdale Police Department were called out at 6:58 a.m. Friday to the 500 block of Fifth Street where a man reported that he was robbed.
The victim told police that while he was withdrawing money from an ATM located in the 400 block of Desoto Avenue, he was approached by a male subject who asked him for a lighter. Once he left the ATM, the victim told police that same male approached him and demanded money.
Through video surveillance, investigators were able to identify Benton as the suspect.
Following his arrest, Benton was transported to the Clarksdale Police Department where he was processed and booked on one count of robbery. He was taken to the Coahoma County Jail pending an initial appearance in Clarksdale Municipal Court on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
