Despite some earlier fears of a last-minute cancellation of the Delta Jubilee, the annual community event will be held as planned this weekend.
Lowry Carnival, the company originally hired to serve as the carnival for the event informed officials with the Clarksdale/Coahoma County Chamber of Commerce last week that it had “overbooked” for this weekend and wouldn’t be able to be at the Delta Jubilee.
That left chamber officials in a mad scramble to find a replacement carnival operator, which they were able to do over the weekend, said John Levingston, executive director of the chamber of commerce.
“Everything is going to go on as planned,” Levingston said.
The carnival, put on by Johnson Amusements, will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, May 30-June 1, and from 1 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 2.
The 35th Delta Jubilee will take place at the Coahoma County Expo Center at 1150 Wildcat Drive in Clarksdale. There will be a number of events including a talent show, arts and crafts show, car show, motorcycle show, and volleyball and corn hole tournaments.
