Dr. Ilean Richards has been appointed interim school superintendent for the Coahoma County School District and she gave her first report to the district’s Board of Trustees on Tuesday, July 10, at their regular monthly meeting.
A longtime resident of Greenville, she is a graduate of McNair High School in her native Belzoni.
She received her bachelor of science degree in social science from Alcorn State University and also attended Delta State University, where she received her master’s of education in administration and instructional supervision.
She has been a teacher, principal, curriculum coordinator, federal program coordinator ad superintendent. She has also served as an adjunct professor for Delta State University and Mississippi Delta Community College.
She has served as an educational consultant for a host of schools and school districts, including Yazoo City, North Panola Schools, Greenville Public Schools, Holmes County School
District, Holly Springs School District, Leflore County Schools and the Mississippi Department of Education.
She is married to John Henry Richards and they have two children — Lisa and Chris.
In the meeting, the board of trustees:
- Was informed by Richards that Panola Paper Company submitted the lowest and best bid for janitorial supplies and Delta Waste Disposal submitted the lowest and best fid for waste services for the upcoming school year. The amount of the bid was not disclosed. She also said that Fly Timber Co. submitted the lowest and best bid for the sale of timber in the amount of $41,980.
- Approved a request by Richards to approve a contract with Rosemont Consulting for specified services in special education at the rate of $1,500 per day when needed. The board also approved a contract with Jocelyn Ratliff for psycho educational evaluation and for Grace Therapy, LLC to service special education students in the upcoming school year.
- Approved Denton’s bid for dairy products, although the amount of the bid was not made public.
- Agreed to pay $248,496 in claims.
- Approved the personnel report and then went into executive session to discuss a personnel matter before adjourning.
