Catherina Weatherspoon, the youngest of six children, was born to the late James and Elnora Weatherspoon. Catherine was born on Feb. 16, 1953 in Alligator. She attended Coahoma Agricultural High School.
She professed her faith in Christ at an early age at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, under the direction of the late Pastor Willie Word. She continued to serve faithfully under the direction of Pastor Sculark.
Ms. Catherine Weatherspoon departed this earthly life on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019 at Methodist Le Bonheur, at the age of 66 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elnora Weatherspoon. Funeral services will be at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 2237 North State St., in Clarksdale with the Rev. Samuel Sculark officiating. The Rev. L.C. Tyler II is the pastor.
Those left to cherish her memories are two daughters Sonja (Anthony) Weatherspoon-Butler and Talisha (Melvin) Weatherspoon, both of Clarksdale; two sisters, Nettie Weatherspoon of Clarksdale and Willie Mae Larry of Dade City, Fla.; three brothers, Johnny (Dorothy) Weatherspoon and Charlie Weatherspoon of Clarksdale and James (Bernice) Weatherspoon of Dallas, Texas. Catherine is also survived by six grandchildren Tyrhonda Weatherspoon, Shayla Weatherspoon, Anthony Butler Jr., Christopher Thompson Jr., Cameron Thompson and Christina Liner; five great-grandchildren Jordyn, Amarion, Aiden, Adrian and Sevyn; special friends Della White, Gloria Dixon and the Stringers (Wilbur, Elouise, Gary, Carolyn, John, Kristin); and host of nieces, nephews and other friends.
