It is with great sadness that the family of Geoff Abraham announces his passing on Jan. 7, 2020, at Seasons Hospice Care, Cumming, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Josephine Abraham. Geoff is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan; daughters Brooke (Mike) Harris, Amanda Abraham (Brian Kee), Janna (Charles) Charoenlap; grandchildren Grace, Elijah, Stella, Alice, and Cece; siblings Betty Jo “BJ” Abraham of Atlanta, Georgia Wilson of Clarksdale, and George Abraham Jr. (Shirley) of Clarksville, Tenn.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.
Geoff was born in Clarksdale on April 29, 1948. For his early education, he attended St. Elizabeth Catholic School, where he enjoyed serving as an altar boy. He had the great advantage of spending his youth surrounded by the supportive Lebanese community in the Mississippi Delta, living close to many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close family friends. He earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Delta State University. During his college years, he enjoyed going on motorcycle rides and working summers at Glacier National Park, where he met his lifelong friend, Dick Bethel.
After living in Mississippi and Tennessee, Geoff and Joan settled in the Atlanta area where they raised three beautiful daughters. He loved spending time with his family and particularly cherished serving in the role of “Giddy” to his five grandchildren. While he began his career as an accountant, his true passion was information technology and working with computers, which he continued to enjoy after retirement. In recent years, he returned to his accounting roots to work part time with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service.
In retirement, he enjoyed making new friends, helping people, and tinkering with electronic gadgets. Geoff was dedicated to his Catholic faith. He and his friend from church, Andy Hoeckele, met for breakfast every Saturday for many years. Among his favorite treats were ice cream, iced tea, and Kibbie, his favorite Lebanese dish.
Geoff will be fondly remembered by his friends and family as a loyal and loving man of faith.
